Creating Your Outdoor Sanctuary

Author: Christie Hurd

The mood of the moment during these pandemic times has been finding peace in the garden!  Let’s be absolutely clear, I do not have a green thumb nor did I ever think it was fun lol, BUTTT during these times when we’ve had little to do, I must say I did find some peace in it!

I never fully appreciated before how truly soothing it can be to just sit and pull weeds while listening to the birds chirping or redesigning my gardens. I’ve whiled away many hours sitting on a hazy spring afternoon perusing Pinterest and garden magazines trying to best decide how to redesign my outdoor spaces.  My poor husband, he’s had to rearrange many vignettes out there only to have me say, I think it’s time for something different or I saw this really cute vintage outdoor sofa, etc.

I love transforming an outdoor nook into something magical, for day or night.  Most of you know my style is kind of Gypsy boho with some vintage pickins mixed in.  Give me some Adirondack chairs, fairy lights, country music and a glass of wine in my hand and I am a happy girl!   Oh and we can’t for get the fire pit too!

Sooo, all this being said...How do you create your most relaxing outdoor summer...??

Find yourself some space this summer whether it’s large or small. Think about the little things that can make a huge impact on your space, find fun patterns, introduce some texture, layer some colors and definitely include a water feature, the sound is so relaxing. Style your space for entertaining, work or just cozying up with a good book.  We want our outdoor space as comfortable as our indoor space so we use throw pillows, blankets (for those cool nights around the fire pit) and of course, outdoor accessories.
Now with all this zen fresh in your mind, go create your very own outdoor sanctuary and when you are finished putting yours together, I hope you love yours as much as I love mine!

Check out some of these outdoor inspirations I found that are so stinkin’ adorable.  As you can see, there are a lot of DIY ways to make your space a comfy zone with out breaking the bank. You would be surprised what you can create with things you already own!

I absolutely love this space. The candles, the lights, the abundance of pillows, I could just throw myself here and I’d be good for days.

Who would have ever thought cinderblock could be so chic!  This is a super cool way to make an outdoor couch with out digging deep in to your pockets!
This is another inexpensive hack for bringing some personality in to your space.  These 4x4s placed in the planters to hang the string lights is genius and super cute!

This space just welcomes you right in, it’s so inviting with the hanging swing and the bubble lights. This couch could easily be made out of pallets for a budget friendly seating space.
